Design For Six Sigma – Master Black Belt

Build upon your Black Belt competencies and become a sought-after Six Sigma expert.

Six Sigma Master Black Belt course

The DFSS Master Black Belt course is an extension to the Black Belt course, not only providing you with new skills, but also opening new career paths and equipping you to assume an expert role, where you can implement successful projects with measurable results for your company.

You will be able to solve critical and complex quality challenges, and assume a strategic leadership role within the organisation.

There are two archetypal Master Black Belt profiles:

  1. The specialist who has significant expertise in conducting Lean Six Sigma projects.
  2. The organisational leader, who functions as part of the management level with a focus on organisational implementation and operation.
Teaching at eye4improve

Who is the course intended for?

Who is the training aimed at?

The typical Master Black Belt student has often worked as a Black Belt for several years, building solid experience in creating, leading, and implementing complex, cross-functional, and cross-organisational DFSS projects.

With this extension, competencies are bolstered, and further emphasis is placed on organisational and strategic leadership skills. You naturally become part of the management level with a focus on organisational implementation and operation. Additionally, you will play a central role in the training of other employees in the method e.g., teaching, training and coaching new Green Belts and Black Belts.

Content of the DFSS Master Black Belt course

Duration: Typically 9-11 days (planned individually)

At eye4improve, we tailor our DFSS Master Black Belt course to each individual Master Black Belt candidate and their company/organisation. There can be significant differences in role distribution and responsibilities from one candidate to another. We therefore adapt the content of the course to each student, ensuring they get the best possible competency development based on the experiences they have already gained.

We thus offer a course that is tailored to your needs. We analyse your experiences and consider your career goals when we organise the course, so it can develop and strengthen you, while also meeting the highest standards for certification.

The course period often extends over 1-2 years. The number of physical teaching days will vary according to the individual candidate but will typically be 9-11. In addition, there will be a series of practical tasks that you will simultaneously perform in your organisation. These tasks will both help develop your coaching skills and ensure that you acquire the skills described in the standards.

You conclude the course with a written project assignment, and a verbal defence of this. The assignment should be completed a maximum of 2 years after the start of the course.

The Practical

Teaching: Approximately 9-11 days of physical teaching (planned individually)
Duration: The course typically extends over 1-2 years, during which you will carry out a series of practical tasks in your own organisation to acquire the right skills to be certified.
Teaching method: The teaching takes place as 1:1 either physically or online.

Project, Exam & Certification

Project

To become a certified Design for Six Sigma Master Black Belt, you must have completed two IDOV development projects in your own organisation. The project result should show improvement in an important performance measurement for the organisation's strategy.

The projects should be completed within 24 months from the start of your training and conclude with the submission of a project report and a verbal defence of the task.

The report is a detailed thesis containing reflections on the process and the results you have achieved. In addition, you should be able to document the use of different Six Sigma problem-solving tools.

Coaching

To become a certified Design for Six Sigma Master Black Belt, you must also carry out coaching of Green Belts and Black Belts in your own organisation. You are the expert who can guide them during their training and advise them on their practical projects.

Of course, you will also receive continuous sparring and guidance from our Six Sigma coaches with vast practical experience and insight into the implementation of DFSS projects. Your coach will assist you in ensuring progress in your projects and provide advice in relation to your own coaching tasks.

You will have 3-4 hours of personal coaching per IDOV phase, where you receive targeted help for your specific issue (the hours cannot be accumulated but must be used continuously). With this valuable support, it is easier for you to maintain the thread through the phases, and to create the best possible project outcome.

Certification

The certification is based on your completed projects and coaching tasks. The certification is an acknowledgment that you have proven your ability to convert theory into practice and create significant results. Please be aware that there is no guarantee of passing. But we will not recommend you for the examination until we believe you are ready.

Examination, presentation, and celebration

You should present the final project report to your teacher and an examiner. Your leader and project group are very welcome to participate, for certification is also a small celebration, where your and the project's results are celebrated and acknowledged. This is a milestone in your career!
