Lean

Optimise your business resources and minimise waste and inefficiency.

What is Lean?

Lean is a philosophy and a methodology that focuses on creating value for the customer by optimising processes and minimising waste and inefficiency. Lean was originally developed in the Japanese car industry by Toyota, but today it’s used in virtually all types of businesses and organisations.

Indeed, Lean is a truly effective tool when businesses wish to improve the quality of products, create efficient processes, increase productivity, enhance customer satisfaction or reduce costs.

Eight types of waste

Transportation

Transport

Unnecessary transportation of goods, equipment and people. It results in wasted time, and materials are more likely to be damaged.
Inventory

Inventory

Having too much in stock can lead to longer delivery times, damaged or defective products, and inefficient use of capital.

Motion

Motion

Non-value-adding movement of people/machines/parts in the process is waste; it can cause harm to employees, damage to equipment or defects in the product.

Waiting and delays

Waiting & Delays

The time lost due to a halt in productivity is considered waste. This usually happens when workers have to wait for material, or when production is halted due to unexpected equipment maintenance.
Over processing

Over-processing

It’s important for businesses to understand what their customers require from the product and eliminate all tasks or processes that are not useful or necessary in relation to these requirements.
Over production

Over-production

When production is faster or in larger quantities than the demand, and you are left with too many goods to store and manage.
Defects

Defects

Faulty or defective products that do not meet the company’s (and the customer’s) standards. For example, products or parts that either have to be scrapped entirely or reworked.
Non-utilised Resources

Non-utilised resources

This waste occurs when management does not exploit the full potential of its employees in the form of special competencies, skills, and knowledge.
In essence, Lean is about eliminating the non-value-adding elements, structuring the way things are done so that you can work smarter not harder, and creating a good and efficient flow throughout the entire process (from receipt of order to delivery of the finished product), so you can deliver the goods quickly without compromising on quality.

Lean belts, courses and competency levels

At eye4improve, we can certify at several belt levels, and ensure to put together programmes that match exactly the competencies you and your business demand.

Yellow

Belt

Lean Yellow Belt

Gain insight into the fundamental principles of Lean, so you can become an active team member in Lean projects, and assist Green Belts and Black Belts.

Duration: 3 days of instruction.

Green

Belt

Lean Green Belt

Gain substantial practical insight and become capable of leading and executing larger Lean implementation projects. Green Belts often spend about 25% of their working time on this.

Duration: 6 days of instruction + work with own practical project.

Black

Belt

Lean Black Belt

Achieve expert level and become capable of executing complex Lean roll-outs and ensuring momentum and backing for the work. Typically a 100% resource.

Duration: 9 days of instruction + work on a specific project.

Lean education with eye4improve

By taking our lean course, you will gain a thorough understanding of lean principles and the various tools and methods that can help you improve your work processes. You will learn how to optimise your business resources and minimise waste and inefficiency, which will lead to increased productivity, higher quality, and better results.

At eye4improve, we are practitioners and place great emphasis on training practitioners who can create real results and improvements in a real context.

  • 1-1 Coaching (for Green Belt and Black Belt in their project course)
  • Combination of theory and practical training – with both theoretical exams and presentation of your own completed project as final certification (GB and BB)
  • Opportunity for certification at all belt levels

Why use Lean?

Lean can be an effective tool to improve quality, increase productivity and reduce costs by focusing on customer value and efficient processes.

It can also be used to improve customer satisfaction by reducing waiting time, increasing flexibility, and improving the quality of the products or services delivered.

Lean Six Sigma
In essence, Lean is about having an understanding of customers’ needs and what creates value for them. At the same time, there is a focus on optimising the flow of work and making optimal use of the resources within each function. It’s a whole, where all the functions in the process must work together and perform to achieve the desired result. We must deliver to the customer and at the same time achieve balance in the whole. By achieving this balance, the whole flow becomes more efficient, and we can deliver the right quality at the desired time, without requiring more work. Work smart, not hard.

Why should you
choose a Lean education course?

At eye4improve, we are experts in Lean. Both in theory and practice. We can teach you how to carry out complex improvement projects for your business, with results that will be felt on the bottom line.

We have high professional competence, are passionate about what we do, and are keen to make you good!

Experienced and skilled teachers

Our teachers all have +15 years of theoretical and practical experience in Lean and Six Sigma. They are specialists and experts in the field, as well as extremely skilled teachers who understand how to convey complex knowledge, so you subsequently have the understanding and skills to use it in practice.

Certification according to the highest standard

We certify in Lean and Six Sigma to the highest standard. We keep ourselves constantly updated, so your instruction and certification are always updated and relevant. We are thorough! To become a Green Belt certified with us, you must both pass the theoretical teaching, and complete a specific project for your business within 1 year. You won’t become an expert in a weekend!

We educate practitioners

We emphasise both theory and practice in our educations. You apply the theory to a specific development project in your own organisation. This ensures the greatest learning outcome for you while you solve a real challenge for your company (Green Belt and Black Belt level).

World-class online teaching

We create our own customised teaching material. We use real-world examples and gladly include selected issues from your business or your field of expertise, making it easier to understand the context. Additionally, we use the teaching platform from MoreSteam, which is the leading global provider of online training, certification and technology within Lean and Six Sigma.

“Regarding the course ‘Production and Business Management’ at Aarhus University for our food, biotech and chemical engineering students, it has been an invaluable asset to draw on Eye4improve’s vast knowledge and enormous experience in systematising and optimising product development and production processes. Through Michael Paulsen, concepts rooted in widely branched industries were exemplified and elaborated, thus made understandable, even for students for whom topics within Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen and similar are far from their other subjects and studies. In addition to an outstanding presentation, Michael’s rare insight and infectious engagement result in intensive conceptual understanding and learning for our students”
